My meeting with Nora Roberts
by Renee Uitto
At the last GDRWA Meeting, a member brought in a flyer that said Nora Roberts
was going to be in town October 5th at the Barnes & Noble in Rochester
Hills. (Thank you, Margie Keebler!) Since she is one of my all-time favorite
authors, I naturally wanted to go. I mentioned it to our awesome president
Patti Shenberger a few days later in an email and she urged me to call the
store right away since tickets were going fast. So I called and left a message
for the guest relations person. She returned my call the following Monday and
said that I would have a seat in the front row. All I had to do was show up
the day of the event. I told all my closest friends and they were very happy.
Even my mother was excited for me!
On the day of the event, I arrived at Barnes & Noble
approximately 90 minutes before Nora was scheduled to appear. I bought a new
book that was published in paperback and went to the area where she was going
to be. I felt like I was going to see Oprah since there were tons of women
crammed into a small space with their books waiting to be signed.
When Nora
was ready to make her arrival, a few people led the way for security reasons.
Women were screaming and jumping up and down. Then the discussion began. Nora
decided to take questions from the audience right away. She was very down to
earth and I could tell she takes her writing career very seriously. For me,
I was honored to meet Nora since I enjoy her stories. I also felt very inspired
to hear some of her tricks of the trade. A word that Nora refused to comment
on when she was asked where her inspiration comes from.
The best part of all
was I was first in line to have her sign her book. She wasn’t supposed
to personalize copies, but she did since I told her my name was Renee out of
excitement!
